You will adore this video of a true labor of love: the making of one’s own wedding dress. The dress is absolutely gorgeous and gives a real princess bride look!

It took the bride over 4 months or more than 200 hours of fine manual labor. This dress costs about $5,000 in silks, embroidery, etc. If you would add labor and fittings, it would total to about $20,000 to make.

May this video inspire you to make your own wedding dress. There is lots of help, patterns and material choices out there to make your own wedding gown. There are vogue wedding patterns (you may also look for bridesmaids’ dresses) and anyone around you will be interested in your ‘secret’ project. You also don’t have to make such an incredibly intricate dress, but choose something much simpler and quite possibly less expensive.

However, one little warning before you begin: 4 months (200+hours) is a lot of work. Sure, it can be done and, sure, this dress is gorgeous, and sure to have a self-made dress is something to be very proud of. But keep the perspective of what marriage is about: growing together with your fiance. It is a period in your life that you should really spend romantically with your fiance, not frantically on making a dress that is not to be seen by your partner before the wedding, plus the usual wedding planning. So, if you decide to make your own dress, start really early, and unless you’re a very experienced seamstress, choose something simply dashing, rather than intricate romantic.
