The term Bridezilla is thrown around a lot these days as Brides scramble to make their wedding day special.
There are however, some basic “rules” to follow while planning and executing your special day so that your guests will remember how kind you were instead of terming you a “Bridezilla”
1. You are NOT entitled to gifts. Sure it is assumed that you will receive gifts for your shower, and of course for your wedding. Accept these from your guests with grace by thanking them in person and most importantly by sending them a hand written thank you note as soon as you receive the gift.
2. If your wedding reception falls during a meal time, FEED your guests. You do not need to spend thousands on an elaborate five course meal, but serve your guests something to eat at your reception. Sometimes buffets are less expensive that a plated meal. You can also do a heavy appetizer reception. Check with the different venues you are considering for your reception to see if they offer an inexpensive meal or appetizer menu to give to your guests. This is especially important if you are serving alcohol. You don’t want your guests drinking with no food. If need be, cut back in other areas, such as center pieces or wedding attire in order to be a gracious Bride who thinks of her guests comfort.
3. Be kind to your wedding party. It certainly is an honor to be asked to be in your wedding. But understand that your Bridal party do have lives outside of your wedding. Try to plan dress fittings and such according to their schedules so that they aren’t taking time from their other commitments. Think of your Bridal party’s budget when selecting the attire they will wear at your wedding. Chooses attire that they can afford and maybe that they can wear to another occasion. If it is in your budget, ask if you can assist them in paying for their attire if necessary. Also take into account the different body types of the girls in your Bridal party. Let them have some say in the outfits as they know what they are comfortable wearing and what looks best on them. Be sure to graciously thank them for any parties or showers they may host for you. Consider taking them to a luncheon or dinner as a “Thanks” for all they have done for you.
4. On the day of your wedding and at your reception: Make sure that you and your new Husband take some time to visit every guest table to say hello and to thank your guests for spending you special day with you.
Being a gracious Bride doesn’t cost anything. It is all about considering your guests and wedding parties feelings and needs during your wedding. By being kind and thankful and considerate, you will be long remembered for being a gracious Bride.
